AstraX 0.5: Spacecraft Editor launch imminent


Get ready Pilots, exciting news await!

It's been quiet around AstraX, mostly because I have been working on this ginormous update that is version 0.5. I decided to jump right into a proper implementation before adding work arounds for important quality of life features.

For this reason, launch of the spacecraft editor was placed ahead of schedule.

The update will release on the 14th August.

Creating the editor was no easy feat. However, the work was definitely worth it and the end result is beautiful.

Here are a few insights to the upcoming version 0.5!

Spacecraft Editor

The editor lets you create, load and save spacecraft and stations. You can then start a new game with the spacecraft you created. It is fully functional and not a bare-bones implementation (although probably not bugless yet).

Backgrounds

Better backgrounds change depending on galaxy and galaxy regions (which are scattered randomly across the galaxy). Regions can be large nebulae or asteroid fields: these points of interests look different to the rest of the galaxy.

HUD Style

Large parts of the HUD have been reworked in avionics fashion: a better, sleeker on-screen compass shows target direction and distance. Never miss a target with the extra bouncy target selector. The indicator gauges for fuel/oxygen capacity were replaced with a customizable, shape-based implementation.
