AstraX 0.2.6: Dev Build


AstraX 0.2.6 development build is available!

But: Beware of bugs! Most of them are already fixed in the coming 0.3 version which will drop this week!

Sneek peak of AstraX 0.3.

The biggest change is the addition of custom planets that allow the addition of rare, unique celestial bodies that only spawn once or twice. Be prepare to experience major user experience improvements.

Here is the full changelog for 0.2.6:

  • A few new UI sounds
  • Sonar: Added sound and visual cue on target acquisition/loss
  • HUD: Added priority messages, info messages stack fade-in, important ones on top-middle
  • Got rid of some annoying voice messages 
  • Added context action hints
  • Added extended mining mechanics with resource deposits & mining drill
  • Added very basic mining HUD
  • Added customizable planets
  • Added our Solar System as starter system, fully discoverable
  • Various bugfixes

Development has been very... sporadic so far. Motivation comes and goes, but the upside is: if it's there, its very productive. :) AstraX 0.3 will follow very soon with more polish and bugfixes!

Outlook

I've been reevaluating the direction this game is taking. A prototype ship editor and discovery-related mechanics are currently in the works. Here are some items I have planned for future versions:

  • trading
  • generation of planetary features (e.g. individual volcanoes)
  • A much better star map
  • Improved sound design
  • A database of all discovered traits, planets, planet features (and more) aka "Planepedia"
  • Constructions of spacecraft, capital ships and space stations
  • Adding discoverable NPC spacecraft, capital ships


Note: Next update (version 0.3) is scheduled for 11th October.
